The question is that how the test code for manual transmission for a car can be developed to make sure that the transmission will not fail during its design life. In other words, I want to know how to delvelop a zero failure test code for manual transmission for a car. I heard that industry usually tests transmission with constant torque load and speed at the all gears but with different testing time portions for the gears. The total testing time is known to be usually in a range from 300 to 500 hours. Thank you. kukim@snu.ac.kr

Equal time in 2nd to top speed and perhaps half that for 1st at maybe 70% max torque in each case would be a good starting point.

Constant torque, speed, or load will only monitor tooth and bearing wear. There are many other sources of failure in the life of a transmission.
