Test Level and Performance Level Barriers - AS5100 1

Quiz: What are the different types of road safety barriers used in Vicroads, and how do they differ in terms of their performance? I know the below definitions, but looking at the current AS5100 it looks like every performance level barrier has a test level assigned to it. What I am unclear about is whether Test Level barriers and performance level barriers have a clear line of distinction or do all PLs have an assigned TL, and the performance level barriers we often talk about on site are actually Special Performance le3vel barriers?

1. Test level barriers are the minimum requirements for a barrier to be considered compliant with AS5100.1 and AS5100.2. They are designed to withstand a specific amount of force from a vehicle impact, but they may not provide the same level of protection as performance level barriers.

2. Performance level barriers are designed to provide a higher level of protection than test level barriers. They are tested to withstand a greater amount of force from a vehicle impact, and they may also be designed to deflect or redirect the vehicle in a way that minimizes the risk of injury.

3. Special performance level barriers are designed to protect against specific hazards, such as high-speed vehicles or vehicles carrying hazardous materials. They are the most stringent type of barrier, and they are typically used in high-risk areas.

PL comes from risk factors. Some PLs have a TL that is deemed to match so conformance with the PL can be achieved by using a tested barrier. You also need the PL to design the bridge deck because the loads are given for PL not TL.
