Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

I need some informaiton regarding the measurement of the stiffness curve of air/aerostatic bearings. The curve has load or force on the y axis and lift or air-film thickness on the x axis. What kind of test or mechanism/appratus is used to measure this relationship?

Basically, a known weight and a sensitive dial indicator should get you in the ballpark.
