Greetings to all!!!

I am looking for the problems associated with foundations (for pile, open & box type) on shale (completely weathered to moderately weathered). So, what are the things to be kept in mind during geotechnical investigation for shale rock?
It is a elevated highway structure on embankments, going on green fields. So all type of structures are there along the alignment. Major bridges, minor bridges, under passes (box type structure), reinforced earth walls, embankments, Bank seat abutments are the type of structures were proposed.

So, what are the problems will be occurred for foundation resting on Shale rock and how to quantify with any specific tests; please give your thoughts about it.

I have dealt with shale virtually all of my life, in semi-arid, arid & alpine environments.
Before I bail off into this, What is your climate, in particular, the existing moisture condition(s) of the shale & what can be expected after construction? You mention green fields. Is this from natural precipitation or irrigation?
