Break up the circle into one or more arcs.

Then type 'atext'<cr>, pick an arc, and fill in the blanks.

Is this something new? I get "unknown command" with 2002 version.

Atext was new with the 2000 version. I believe it's present in the 2005 version. Don't know about 2002.

Had to do a websearch. It's a "Bonus Tool" which apparently I don't have, nor does the AutoCAD Lite installation down the hall.

I like Miller Lite beer. I don't like anything else 'lite'.

One other option: Rhino can do arc text, and write AutoCAD files. Cheap if you already have Rhino.

Actually, the only time I ever needed to do text on an arc was on my PE seal several years ago. I did a single letter in single-line-text, arrayed it around a circle, edited the text to what I needed, and manually rotated to adjust spacing. Not as slow as it sounds, at least for a one-shot deal.
