@[Text@] no longer putting a box around my "Text"

I used to be able to put a note inside a box by typing @[Text@] where "Text" is replaced by what I want in the box. Now, for some reason, I cannot add this to a note. I can put it in the text of a dimension but it seems like my notes aren't as smart as they once were. Is there a hidden config option I need to check? What changed?

What version are you using?

I'm using 3.0 but that hasn't changed, only my ability to add text boxes has. Do I need to convert notes to some other version of text that is "active?"
