Th400 freewheeling

I have a TH400 that is freewheeling when I shift into second gear to decelerate or keep speed. It has beeen rebuilt and I took it back to the shop and they put a new band in it last year. What could be causing this and what is the best method for fixing this. I don't want to take it back to the shop again (they aren't able to fix the problem)

If I recall correctly the intermediate band in a TH400 is for braking and the shift lever MUST be in second gear for it to be effective.

With the shift lever in Drive mode, second gear is accomplished by activating the itermediate clutches AND the intermediate roller clutch. Of course the forward clutches are also engaged, but they stay engaged in all three forward gears.

The intermediate clutches receives oil to the piston through the support housing.

The intermediate roller clutch is on the rear of the direct cltuch drum.
