At this time of year my thoughts always turn to my youth. My father was a mill worker and an immigrant from Canada and my mother was also a mill worker. Both had only grade school educations but they both knew how to do hard work and therefore my brothers and I always had a home and food with plenty of love. I can't say that life has been easy as I have to deal with life serious issues three times in my life and I am still here. I must be honest and say that in every crises I learned more about myself and the meaning of love then I ever would have and I know it sounds crazy but I'm actually thankful for all the suffering. I am now, as they say, in the twilight of my life, I have been with the same woman, 45 years now and the best 45. I have 2 great sons, who are 43 and 40 years old and my best friends and 10 grand children ages from 23 to 5 years old. I am writing this because I hope that those of you who are in a crises at this time will keep hope alive and hang in there and try as hard as you can to believe that good things are possible as long as you believe in yourself and if possible something bigger. With this, I wish you and yours all good health, happiness and great rewards.

I don't think that sounds crazy at all. I have had it relatively easy compared to most people I've known. I sometimes think that causes me to take things for granted (job, wife, money, etc.). I think painful events in our lives can open our eyes and remind us how great the good times are.

Congrats on the successful marriage, family, and life. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

thanks imok for reminding us of the real priorities in life

In life we get carried away by the immediate concerns leaving aside the real priorities. Also immediate gains camouflage the long term goals and in this euphoria we miss the big picture.

Thanks imok for sharing your valuable experience.

I rally am over whelmed with the response I have received from this posting. It's so easy to feel lost in the every day manusha of our lives. Believe me I wasn't always with this mind set but what I realized over time was all the good we can do for ourselves and all the people we meet and work with every day. I suppose in the final anaysis if we can say that we like ourselves and we did the best we could without intentionally hurting anyone or thing and are truly loved then I say we were successful in this journey. Anyway I say life is good.

It's not surprising that suffering makes us stronger. A good analogy is your make steel tougher by crushing it. Same with us, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

So why are so many people in our societies working so hard to eliminate ALL suffering, ALL offenses, ALL problems. I understand we must strive to improve but GOD help us if we're successful. Leave enough trials to keep us from becoming mushrooms! ;-)

You're an inspiration, IMOK2. Thanks.
