The effect on the primary when correcting the PF on the secondary

Good day,

If I correct the power factor (the kW remains the same) on the secondary of a transformer, will the primary power factor also be corrected?

Yes, except for the leakage reactive power of the transformer. That is usually a small part, some 5 percent, of the total power. So PFC on the secondary is good also for primary PF.

Agree with Skogsgurra. If you're only concern with the Power Factor value, then the difference in the primary and secondary would be small.

However, if you're also concern with the total kVAR reduction (for loss reduction), then, the transformer's leakage reactive power would become significant in large transformers (above 10 MVA).
