I had no idea they were that technical... I suspect strongly that this wasn't by accident. When I had my Z-28 back in the 70s, because of the stock car competition, you could obtain performance parts from over the GM counter that were generally as good or better than the products offered by the 'speed shops', for a fraction of the cost.

Inelegant? I don't know about that...

dik, a long time ago I had 1) a '68 Z and 2) an inside man at the local Chevy Parts counter. I got the good stuff cheeeep :)
