Have you guys ever experienced this equipment? They claim that the air db temperature can be reduced below its initial wbt. I have been trying for hours to understand the process on a psychro chart now at the verge of forgetting what I know sofar. But they say it works and got some awards already.

I want to know your views, opinions and clarification.

Regards,

See cooling & dehumidification process 1-5 Fig. 54 Spray Process in Carrier Handbook of Air Conditioning System Design page 1-136. you can also use piezoelectric evaporation or cool-fog using compressed air but they require either RO or DI water.

Lilliput,

Unfortunately I don't have the book with me. Can you send the pages?

Actually this site doesn't talk about using external sources for either cooling or heating. They just manage it with the same air and use water injection for evaporative cooling.

Quark,

I guess I can see how it works, but wonder if the extra metal to run counterflow tubes is worth it? Are you running numbers now for a new system design? Would like to know if it makes economic sense, what the payback is.

Lilliput,

Thanks a ton. I got it. The process in the above link seems to be a bit different. I am in touch with those people and got something to read(report by DOE).

Btrueblood,

This topic came up in another website forum. I think I gathered sufficient data to do the analysis. Will let you know if I come up with anything.

PS: The manufacturer says it is better to go with a 95% safer design approach though the test results prove 100% whereas theoretical claims were above 100%(actually they say it is just above dew point)

Regards,

What they are doing is a whole lot light a compressed air drier in reverse. And it does work, in the sense that if you run the analysis based on the enthalpy of your cooled air, it will operate over 100%. Course the enthalpy difference is in the latent of the water being evapped into the the couterflow Air Stream.

Its a neat way to create a very high capacitance for evaporation, but one caveat: it kind of stalls out as you approach frosting temperatures, as the whole premise breaks down when the channels start to fill up with frost.
