The majority (old & new) of our production motors (pumps, agitators etc) which are on automatic instrument control will run when the stayput e-stop is released, as the instrument contact is either closed (asking to run) or open (asking to stop). Some newer systems use a pulsed start (with parallel latching contact) & a separate stop contact.

The question is this:- The former design has been in use for some 30+ years, I don't think it complies with BS7671:2001 (but I struggle interpreting the relevant regs). Assuming it doesn't comply now, would it have complied 30 years ago?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

Question: Please, why do you assume that it doesn't comply now in "Assuming it doesn't comply now, would it have complied 30 years ago?"

jbartos,

I can't speak for the USA, but in the UK,legislation & regulations change over the years. 30 years ago I was playing with action men & toy cars, I had no interest in electrical safety!!

if what you are concerned about is auto restart when you unlatch an E stop then i don't think it is a 7671 matter

rather i think it's covered by one of the lvd regs, i'll have a look on monday and see if i can point you in the right direction
