Hello, I appreciate your help on the following issue regarding the requirement for a booster fire pump and/or a standpipe.
The building , built in the seventies in Toronto , Canada , is an office building , 3 storey and a basement (group D by the NBC) , it has both the basement and first floor sprinklered , plus a standpipe system servicing the whole building. Currently it is equipped with a fire booster pump. The issue here is whether or not this building is over-designed in its fire protection systems. Such that no standpipe system is required , nor the partial sprinkler system (in the basement and first floor) is required and, consequently no requirement for the fire pump . A Standpipe pressure test has been conducted and the city water pressure was only 45 psi with a flow of 100 gpm . The pressure does not meet the requirement of the Ontario building code of 65 psi @ 100 gpm . Would this shortage of pressure be considered to keep the fire pump utilized or is the fire pumper truck pressure is all what this building need to suppress fire ?
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you
