Tested the thermal conductivity of a material using ASTM E1530 and the values obtained are quite different (almost factor of 10) from published values obtained via ASTM C177. Is this discrepancy between the two methods reasonable/typical???

I often see TCs with a range of a factor of three from common well established materials. The test method means everything with TC. Find more published data and re-do your tests.

Thanks EdStainless. Do you have any experience in deciding which test method to use? Any guidance you might provide is appreciated.

ASTM C177 is an easy way to achieve thermal conductivity where ASTM E 1530 is little stringent. I have results of thermal conductivity of composites using both the methods and they are very much similar.
