Hello All,
I want to calculate the thermal displacement of a pressed fit bushing into a housing. If using the area equation calculation using the equation:
A_f = A(1+2(alpha*delta_T).
Where,
A_f = Final area
A = Current area

Should I use the cross sectional area of the bushing (I think this is right be want to be sure):
A = (pi(d_o^2-d_i^2))/4
or
The "wetted" area:
A = pi*D_o*L

L=length of contact surface between the bushing and housing.
OR
Could this be simplified by a Linier equation:
R_f = R(1+(alpha*delta_T).

Hope this is clear!

No. Your problem is not clear.

Are you worried about a bushing (material = ???) "expanding" somehow so it gets loose and falls out of the surrounding steel (???) when the original temperature (???) gets hot (final temperature = ???) and the assembly expands?

No equations. you are not yet ready for equations.
What is the original ID, OD of the bushing, original ID of the original (room temperature) machined hole?
