Thermal shock for carbon steel vessel

Dear Sir,

I would like to study about the thermal shock behavior of carbon steel vessel , my plant have jacket vessel that high pressure steam (Temp.200C) service in the jacket of vessel (Inside vessel is polymer) . When we shutdown plant we have to cool down this vessel to ambient temp by close the high pressure steam valve ,drain condensate and open water direct to jacket for cooling the vessel. So how can i known the surface temperature of vessel before feed water inside jacket is save for thermal shock (Cracking).

What type of jacket is it?
200C isn't very hot, and I am guessing that your cooling water is warm, maybe 50C.
Figure out the stresses involved with that 150C delta.
I would worry most about the welds connecting the jacket to the vessel, but connections are also an issue.

You need more information - what is the thickness of the carbon steel vessel? Have a vendor knowledgeable in pressure vessel design or go back to the vessel manufacturer to assist you in determining the maximum thermal gradient permitted regarding thermal fatigue and ultimately the delta T.
