Hai,

I would like to know from code or standard experts, i am working in pre insulation pipe line company we supplied the elbows and tees for site. From site they saying thickness of ASTM A 234 grade elbows thickness is not meeting to standard, but they referred me API 5L tolerance to check balance elbows on shop. is it correct to refer thickness tolerance on the API 5L standard for the ASTM A 234 material?

Actual thickness measured in shop by vernier caliper is it ok as per standard or otherwise i have to go for UT thickness gauge?

ASTM A 234 anyone very familiar please help me to sort out this.

How are the elbows thickness not "meeting the standard"? Inspection Standard is B16.9, as listed in A234-WPB....which allows -12.5% undertolerance from nominal thickness, unless otherwise ordered. Ask the "site" where in A234-WPB it references API 5L.....

Thanks for the reply, the complained material is spool pipe. The spool welded by my supplier between the TEE and ELBOW. The Thickness of the TEE & ELBOW is 12.7 mm it is coming under the tolerance ok, my client checked the spool pipe thickness by UT thickness survey they found 10.7 mm Maximum Thickness.

My supplier mentioned the spool pipe material standard as ASTM A 234 WPB & ANSI B 16.9.

The client given spec attached here.

This is not making sense......

A234-WPB is "Specification for piping fittings of wrought carbon steel and alloy steel for moderate and high-temperature service".
B16.9 is "Steel butt-welding fittings"

These are not pipe specifications.

API-5L is a pipe specification.

In your first post you state the elbows are not meeting thickness...and you actually measured the remainder in your shop?

You now refer to pipe wall thickness, but yet the attachment is referring to diameter tolerances.....wall thickness tolerances is Table 9.

What is the diameter and schedule of the pipe?....what is the minimum required thickness?
