The various effects of pulsation dampeners on Positive pulse tools:
You can absolutely run pulse mwd tools with no dampening of any sort. Has been done many times and is especially common on smaller rigs. Be aware that your pulses will be HUGE and you should select poppett and orifice accordingly. I once was on a rig where a larger poppett was accidentally run and 900 pound pulses were the result. Pretty hard to slide with 900 pound pulses.
Conversely, if the pulsation dampener is volumetrically mismatched to the pumps or if the nitrogen is over pressurized, you can easily completely cancel out the pulses altogether especially at surface.
I have personally experienced both extremes.
