I was looking at an old post that talked about extracting associative X, Y and Z valued expressions inspection points> It said "This will be improved in NX 9.0 with the advent of the 'Measure Point' function which will let you extract associative X, Y and Z valued expressions from any Point in your model, including when working in an Assembly."

We currently are using NX9 and I tried to use the 'measure point' function, but I can only get it to work for one point at a time. Is there a way to select multiple points and get a report you can put in a table?

The 'Measure Point' function itself will only assign Expressions to the values X,Y,Z for one point at a time. There is nothing preventing you from using the command several times to create multiple sets of records, for each point selected. Now if you're going to be selecting a large number of points that you would like to create a report for, there are other ways, such as using Information -> Point and then collecting the X,Y,Z data from the listing window or you could always create a custom utility, using Journalization or NX Open. If you have a GRIP execute license I can supply you with a GRIP program which will allow you to select up to 1,000 points and it will write the X,Y,X data to a comma-delimited text file (the program is attached below, just edit the file extension from .zipper to .zip before attempting to extract the files. Please read the header information in the source file for instructions on how to use the program).

Hi John,

Thanks, that is what I am looking for. I will give it a try.

John,

I ran the Grip and it gave me a few errors, not sure if it is operator error. I had a couple of other guys try it and we get the following errors:

1) Error 1545021 at line 41 in Pts_to_txt-file.
the string is too long. Check the variable declarations or the command limitations.

2) Error 1545031 at line 45 in Pts_to_txt-file.
the character position in the string is invalid.

After this error the window popped up and I was able to select the points. then the following error popped up.

3) Data file Saving Error! Program Terminating!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I increased the length of the file name (your must have exceed 30 characters). Try the attached program and see if this works better (I expanded the file name size to 60 characters).

John,

I am still getting and error and it will not save the data. The error is:

Error 1545031 at line 47 in Pts_to_txt-file.
the character position in the string is invalid.

I am running NX 9 with Teamcenter. Not sure if Teamcenter makes a difference.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-You.

OK, try this one. Rather than saving the data file where the Part file was located, which I think was the problem since it's being managed by Teamcenter, this change will simply save the data file in your C:\Temp folder.
