Dear all,

we are engineering a machine for a (potential) Customer in Washington state (Pierce county).
We are supposing that the power supply is 480V Y 4-wire. Is there a way to doublecheck ?

Thank you

Ask the customer?

Hello from Washington - as mentioned, there is no way to know for sure without verifying with the customer. If service is three-phase, common options are 480, 480/277, 208/120, 240 and 240/120. If the service is 480/277, you shouldn't plan on using 277 V for anything - that would be unusual. It is generally used only for lighting. But smaller customers may have only a single-phase 120/240 V service.

Since when is Corvallis in Washington? ;-)

There used to be a couple of old Weyerhaeuser plants and a paper mill that were 600V when I lived there 30 years ago.

Since when is Corvallis in Washington? winky smile

It's still safely nestled in the Willamette Valley, but there have been a few changes for me. Now on the Olympic Peninsula.

Don’t know where he is, but the driest part of western Washington is also on the Olympic peninsula.

Yep. Sequim on the east side of the Olympic Penninsula receives far less rain than Santa Cruz CA… (where Keith lives)

I live west of Sequim in Port Angeles. Our total rainfall is less than Portland or Corvallis, but lots of dreary days in the winter. Sequim is somewhat drier. As you go west from here on Hwy 101, the annual rainfall goes up about 1 inch/mile.

16 inches is a wet year of in Sequim. Rain shadow.

All interesting.
Have a friend that decided to move from Santa Cruz to Port Angeles. He's an avid pilot/plane builder. Sez he was having trouble getting motivated there. Was watching a disturbing number of cat videos..

I thought Port Angeles was an interesting BRIGHT gem sort of clinging to a cliff as I passed it during a boat delivery from Stockton,CA to Blaine,WA. The Coast Guard(?) base was lit brilliantly.

Coast Guard bases may or may not mean what you might hope they might mean.

The Coast Guard Life Boat School is in Ilwaco for one simple reason. The selection criteria was worst seas, worst weather. Ilwaco had no other competitors. Not saying that all Coast Guard locations have the same siting criteria, but Coast Guard near by may not be a comforting indication.
