Does anyone have the definitive solution for the determination of pipe thrust forces and the design of thrust blocks? I have seen many undocumented solutions but no definitive reference. I am referring to fluid flow in steel pipes.

Thanks for answering.

For thrust blocks, even with steel pipe, I suggest using "Thrust Restraint Design For Ductile Iron Pipe" from the Ductile Iron Pipe Institute. See pages 2 thru 6 of this link

Use of thrust blocks assumes that the pipe itself makes no significant contribution to restraint - therefore the pipe material (steel, DI, plastic, fiberglass, etc.) is irrelevant.
