TIA-222H # 7.6.2 talks about “ultimate breaking strength” and doesn’t actually mention MBL.
TIA-222H # 7.6.2.1 talks about the manufacturer's rated breaking strength but doesn't define what it means by this. Manufacturers typically present MBLs but they could also present Ultimate Breaking Strengths.
Ultimate Breaking Strength presumably means the product of the theoretical strength of the wire x the effective area of the rope; and this will be significantly greater (~20-25%) than the MBL which is a statistical derivative of a lot of tests. So, as we are applying a safety factor anyway (phi-g), may we apply it to the Ultimate (as I have defined), or must we apply it to the MBL (not mentioned in 222H)?
