I'm new to progressive collapse analysis and I was looking for interpretations of UFC 4-023-03 to qualify an existing concrete structure using the tie force method.
Section 3-1 says the structural members can be used as long as they can carry the required tie force while undergoing a rotation of 11.3 degrees.
Calculating the tie forces and comparing them to the tensile capacity of the rebar is straightforward.
I am however confused as to how to incorporate the 11.3 degree rotation requirement into this qualification.
I must try to qualify the rebar in the existing pan joists for tie forces.
