Tie Rod as Structural Cross Bracing

Can someone tell me if A354 Gr.BD and A354 Gr.BC are good high strength materials for tie rod as structural cross bracing? Or do you have any better suggestions? And what is different between Gr.BD and Gr.BC?

Both are high strength, quenched and tempered steels. BC has a minimum yield of 99ksi to 109ksi depending on diameter and BD has a minimum yield of 130ksi. I think BD only goes up to 1-1/2" diameter, whereas BC can be obtained up to 4". [sig][/sig]
 
Thanks Ron. Can you tell me if it is common to use A354 material for tie rods? I always use A36 and A572 Grade 50. But this time, these materials cannot give me the required strength. What is the cost of A354 compared to A36, A572 Gr50?

A354 not commonly used for tie rods. Usually mild steel (A36) or A572. I don't know the availability, but would imagine that A354 would be difficult to get in the lengths you might need. Can you use shapes or flat bar instead with area increased to handle stress? [sig][/sig]
 
A word of caution on high strength steels. They are no stiffer than low strength steels. Therefore, higher stress equals higher deflection. Make sure the deflection is within allowable limits. [sig][/sig]
