Is there any fill material that can be placed behind the bulkhead with small holes to prevent it from causing sinkholes?

Can you use a non-woven geotextile?

If the timber bulkhead is losing ground from behind, there are usually holes rotted through the bulkhed near the dredge line. You should replace the bulkhead if the budget allows. Otherwise,, maybe you could excavate behind the bulkhead sheeting, cover the holes with wood or galvanized sheets and then backfill the bulkhead with granular material or concrete. However you fix the bulkhead, it's only temporary. The bulkhead will continue to deteriorate.

Thanks, I realize that any repair is temporary at best. The client wants to buy a couple years by going for a full replacement which I recommended a while back. A combination of geotextile and treated wood may be a solution provided the timber bulkhead has not yet completely deteriorated/rutted.

I was just trying to see if there was any magical solution out there.

Thanks again.

kxa...try cellular concrete. It has a low unit weight, won't ravel, and will plug up small holes. Check with Elastizell.

For a small repair job, special concrete will not be an option. Probably too expensive, not enough quantity for or interest from a supplier.

I wouldn't say "not an option", just more as in "most likely not a cost effective solution".

You never know, you may have a local supplier that wants you to try out a new product line / enter a market. It never a bad idea to ask around.
