Hi,

Does anybody know how can I found how much time was spend to create a solid model in v4 (or in VPM)?

I know its not like in v5 but I'm just curios.

Thanks

A solid model of what? You can create a solid model of a cube in 30 seconds but a complex forging will take a lot longer.

If you are trying to benchmark V5 vs. V4, the initial creation time will be pretty comparable. It's when changes come along, however, that V5 will run circles around V4.

That being said, there are some features that V4 does better than V5. There are other features that V5 does better. It all depends upon what you are doing.

In a real design environment you should see about a 15-25% reduction in Solid Modelling time in V5 over V4, mostly due to the constantly moving design targets and V5's ability to change things on the fly. Once you start implementing the more advanced features of V5 such as PowerCopies, User Features, Design Templates, Relational Design, etc. You will start to see significantly more savings.

Hi,

I'm not trying to make comparisons betweens v4 and v5. I'm agree with you catiajim.

What I was trying to found is if there is somewhere in the system (network) a log file showing the time spend for a solid model (doesn't metter what is it) or a history of the creation (in terms of time not features).

As far as I know in v5 there is such a log file (but I don't remember exactly where is located).

I am sorry if I am sounding obtuse but why would you want to find out if there is a log file to check on creation times. In V4 there isn't such a file although you can assume by the time logged on and the file save time how long a user has been working on a particular model but it still wont tell you how long to create a particular solid. If you require the information to monitor performance of users then CPU time or attentions per hour (mouse clicks and function selections) have been used in the past.
In the past on CADAM my bosses monitored performance this way but designing and detailing times were totally different. Designing needs more thinking time so less poking time.
As for V5 I cant help you with your log file location sorry.

Hi 1oldcaduser,

Yep, you are right when you are saying that "designing needs more thinking time so less poking time".

And no, I don't want to monitor the performance of the users but I want to show somebody else that he is exaggerating saying that a specific model can be done in a shorter time then I was thinking (OK, may be I'm also wrong, but not in such a big manner).

V5 was only a parallel comparison. If somebody wants a good job, should allocate enough time for that task.

In my opinion, working under a big pressure, its not the happiest way to complete a project.

Thanks anyway for trying to give me informations.

Fernando
