timestamp with copy/paste

Hi All,

Just wondering if there exists in catia a copy/paste with timestamp option? In ug there exists extract with a "timestamp on" option. Lets say I want to copy and paste a part and I want it linked only up to when I made the copy. For example I create a cube and I put a hole in it. I copy/paste the cube with hole. Now I add a chamfer to my original cube but I don't want to have the chamfer on my copied part. However, if I change the diameter of the original hole, or even the size of the original cube, I also want it to change on the copied part. How can I achieve this?

I think you're going to want to use published elements for this one.

Using published elments essentially creates an associative copy of my original block. What I want to achieve is an associative copy of my block up until I make the copy. So in the tree of the original block I will have a PAD followed by a HOLE. I then publish the block. If I then add a CHAMFER it will also show up in the published block. I only want the copied block to have the pad and hole features and not the chamfer yet it should update when I modify the original pad or hole.Perhaps there are some options I need to better understand in using published elements.Would you mind offering any info?

Why not put the chanmfer on the pasted part and keep all the features that are common in the original part.
In this way you would have a master part with all the common features and you could have as many copies as you wish with additional features.
It's not the same but that would be my approach.
Alternatively you could look into Hybrid design which is much more like UG but I don't recommend it based on many users (in this forum and others)input.

You are almost there. Select all the solid features you want to keep in the published body then use the Assemble Features command in the Part Design workbench. Now republish the new assembled body out. Add features to the original after the assemble.
