Tips for Gasket Inspection

Does anybody have any good techniques for inspecting some small, flimsy silicone gaskets on a horizontal optical comparator? The weight of the part deforms itself when 'stuck' on the glass vertically and we would like to find a way to avoid any deformation for a quick and precise inspection.

We are thinking about making a go/no go template (an overlay on the display) for the critical dimensions, but we would like something more concrete for the various radii this part has. Any suggestions are appreciated.

How about sandwiching the gasket with another layer of a glass or plastic slide and holding it with some adhesive tape or another spring type clamp and then taking the measurements.

We used to check printed circuit boards layout with a plasic film master that is made from a photo sensitive clear plastic. That can have alll the important information inscribed on it - dimensions, drawing number, revision letter, date etc. also. You could employ a similar technique also. You could incorporate go, no-go criteria if you can make colour reproduction with green areas as go and red areas as no-go.
