Tips on replacing an old Brook Slip ring

Hi Guys,

Can you give ma any tips on replacing an old Brook Slip ring 60Hp 6 pole 63 amp Rotor current, 78 amp Stator current, Ac Motor. This motor is on a small crusher originally used for crushing stone but now used as part of a re-cycling process where it crushes 4" concrete blocks. The new load is not as demanding as the machine was intended for, but I want to stay with a similar rated new Ac standard Motor. I was thinking of using a 55Kw 6pl 400V std motor with a 160Kw Soft start. Can you give me a guide as to the best way to replace this old motor.

While I'm no an expert on rock crushers, I will say that Brooks are not the company they once were and that quality has suffered greatly in recent years. Sorry if that offends anyone from Brooks but based on the quality of motors we received from the new Eastern European plant I would feel guilty if I did not warn people what they are buying. I guess part of the Brook cost saving plan which resulted in the closure of the British plants was to dispense with any form of QA or QC and avoid rework by shipping the rejects out of the gate with the good motors. Never again!

Under "Glossary of Motor Terms" look at Design
Do not confuse the Design letter with the code letter.
You may consider a design "D" or design "C", depending on your load.
For rocks you would probably want a design "D". For concrete blocks you may be able to use a design "C".
