Hi, I'm very new to titanium, and just want to know if 6/4 is ok for machining bolts/fixings or is it brittle? I ask as it is easiest to obtain and have been told to watch out for different grades with regards to different uses.

The fixings will be subject to some shocks etc in their use and will be replacing mild steel components.

Ti-6Al-4V is used for bolts for aerospace and auto racing applications. It could be suitable for your needs.

These are not for engine internals, and I will be able to roll the threads myself if required, not sure if heat treating is required though as I dont know if the material work hardens, though I'm sure google will bring some answers up.
 
There is benefit to forming the head rather than cutting it. Can you do underhead fillet rolling?

You could use the sources above for non-engine fasteners.

I don't understand your link between work hardening and heat treatment. Heat treatment of fasteners (including Ti-6-4) is most commonly used to increase strength.
 
He probably means annealling rather than normal heat treatment for strength.
