I'm into territory that I've not been in before. Titanium Alloys. I have this spreader bar (basic simply supported beam) that is to be made of Cp Ti Gr2 (ASTM B348 Gr2). It is in the shape of a milled dumbbell with the thinner diameter of 1.875" @ 69.5” long and the end diameters of 2.5" @ 1.25” long, each. Therefore I have a 72" long spreader bar with two pick-up points and two load points. I was given a load and safety factor and have to determine if this configuration will suffice. I have a few questions:

1. Using Titanium instead of steel, what design equations do I use?
2. Are the factors still the same between steel and titanium when checking yielding and shear?
3. Can I even use the same equations for plastic design as stated in the AISC LRFD manual? It states, “…plastic analysis is permitted for steels with specified minimum yield stresses not exceeding 65 ksi….” It says “steels” but the titanium minimum yield strength is less then 65 ksi, so is it still valid?

Any information anyone can offer would be a great help. Thanks in advance.
