Title Block Initials 2

The title block for some of our clients includes a box for "Lead" or "Lead Engineer."  In some instances, the Lead or Lead Engineer is not the same as the Engineer of Record (the one stamping the drawings).  The EOR is in responsible charge of the drawings, of course, but the Lead is the person who is handling the project as a whole, including administrative stuff, schedule, budget, etc.--this does not even have to be an engineer, it can be an architect or designer.  In this scenario, we put the project lead's initials in the "Lead" box, and the EOR stamps the drawing as usual.  However, a fellow engineer believes that the EOR's initials should always be in the "Lead" box.  Does anyone have an opinion on this?

As you note, the lead engineer and EoR may be different... if there is a 'box' location on the drawing for each, then the space can contain the initials of the representative engineer.

At the end of the day, the only name that matters is the PE who signs/seals the drawings.

"Lead" as you refer to it (I've seen 100 different iterations of this), is simply a housekeeping thing so we know who on staff knows all the intimate details of the project.

Twinkie is right on. EOR is all that matters legally or to anyone outside your company.

If you want to have a "Lead" called out on the drawings to make it easier to come back to a project in a few years... do whatever you like with that.

Several times I've had someone ask me who's initials ENG stood for in the Designed By blank.

we use boxes for "Des by" "Dwn by" and "Chkd by". Often times we'll multiple initials in the boxes so we know who was involved with a project to talk with them about it... or call... down the road.

i definitely want any unlicensed engineers who worked on the project to have initials on that DES line. i feel i get better work from them if they have a sense of ownership.
