To sustain the populace for food and potable water, re-use will likely become more frequent:

"IN a groundbreaking move, Murcia’s water treatment authority, Esamur, has offered a staggering 121 cubic hectometres of reclaimed water to farmers in 2023, setting a national record with a remarkable 98 per cent water reuse rate. This was highlighted at the recent Hidralia+UGR Forum, where experts gathered to discuss the pivotal role of reclaimed water in combating drought and climate change.

Pedro Simón, Esamur’s Technical Director, emphasised the critical significance of this recycled water for agriculture, serving as a consistent and indispensable resource to meet the sector’s demands. With an extensive network of 100 treatment plants covering 99.3 per cent of the population across 45 municipalities, Murcia achieves exceptional purification and reuse ratios, a testament to its commitment to sustainability."

Speaking of food, I wonder how much impact all of the illegal immigration into the US has on food prices? A 2.5% step change in population in 3 years is going to put a serious burden on our food supply. These are mostly young men, not babies so they eat a lot more to boot. When our food gets scarce we buy elsewhere so everyone else's food gets more expensive.

As for water reuse, can they filter pharmaceuticals from the water yet?

Interesting to see the such concern about the negative effects of SSRI in fish but not so much concern for humans.

I wonder about the energy (and CO2) required for purification ?

"Hoffen wir mal, dass alles gut geht !"

In order to sustain your limited social programs... the US will shortly need a bunch of immigrants to bolster the population in order to support it as your population ages and retires.

In addition, if climate change causes millions of people to starve... there could be mass migrations of a really ugly type.

That too, can be a problem.

I'll point out that the water processing engineers I've talked to have told me that the processing requirements for releasing waste water into streams or the ocean is not substantially different in effort from what it takes to make it fit for human consumption.

Hmm.... We produce more food than we ever have. So much so that we (as a society) are VASTLY more concerned about obesity than we are about hunger. Now, there are places (Africa, North Korea, Venezuela) where there are lots of people starving or living in extreme hunger. But, that's almost always due to politics rather than weather / climate.

Weather / drought might cause some problems, but they are miniscule when compared to the harsh effect that socialism has on the lives of people who are subjected to it.

We'll have to wait and see how that turns out...

I don't think it's done yet... To reiterate, we'll have to wait and see how that turns out...

In recent history we've had the Cultural Revolution, Bolivarian Revolution, Russian Revolution, and the National Socialist Revolution. All of these ended badly. What more do you need to wait and see?

These may pale by comparison, tug.

The fun bit about waiting to see is that we're relying on assumptions from well-before modern science was developed to predict something that might happen long after we're all dead.

OTOH, I may yet turn into one of those immortal, floating, talking heads from the old Futurama cartoon so guess I'll have to wait and see.

The heck of it is CWB... it might not be long after, and may occur in your lifetime, or your children's.

Sorry tug, it's become political to detract for what could be a real problem... left or right politics will likely have little to do with the outcome.
