WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TOE PLATE IN COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL BUILDING?

To keep tools and items from being kicked off the platform and create a falling debris hazard to those who might be below.

Also, just generally to keep you from accidentally putting your foot over the edge of the platform when you're near the guard.

Two very good reasons for a toe plate.

I've seen people slip on smooth floor grating and grab a handrail in their fall. They end up pivoting toward the free edge; without a toe plate they could literally slide under the guardrail.
