Hi Guys

Can anyone direct me to the tolerance for the following in pressure vessels built to ASME Sec VIII Div 2:

1) Vertical vessel base ring tilt & levelness
2) Horizontal vessel skirt base plate tilt and levelness

Is there any reference in sec VIII?

Thanks in advance

Sree

ASME Sec VIII Div 1 and 2 have limited requirements on tolerances. It is generally based on the clients requirements.

Rao discusses this in Section 22.19 Fabrication Tolerances
Some references to tolerances are:
- AS 4458 Appendix F
- PD-5500 Annex L
- PIP VEFV1100M (dwg. VEFV1102M)
- Standard Tolerances for Pressure Vessels Chpt 20 of Practical guide to pressure vessel manufacturing By Sunil Pullarcot

Just had a look and per Pullarcot

The max. deviation from horizontal of bearing surface of base ring or base plate:
ID < 1200 mm (+/- 3 mm)
ID < 2000 mm (+/- 5 mm)
ID > 2000 mm (+/- 7 mm)

Per AS-4458 Appendix F
Tilt or out of level of saddle or skirt base plate:
ID < 1200 mm (+/- 3 mm)
ID < 2100 mm (+/- 5 mm)
ID < 4000 mm (+/- 6 mm)
ID < 5000 mm (+/- 8 mm)
ID > 5000 mm (+/- 10 mm)

PD-5500 Annex L
Horizontal saddles flatness:
Transverse direction (+/- 2 mm)
Longitudinal direction (+/- 4 mm)
