tolerance for web stiffener

Hi,
In structure steel work for w size beam do we have any tolerance for fitting the web stiffener inside . Or any clearance following in shop.please let me know.

It really depends on the purpose of the stiffener.

A bearing stiffener will at least be intended to bear on one flange, and requires correct preparation (regarding flatness and smoothness of the bearing surface) to function.

Some bearing stiffeners will be specified to bear on both flanges. This is a very expensive detail to require (and can have fatigue implications), but if so, there is very little tolerance.

Other stiffeners (such as those meant to strengthen the web or connect other elements) may have a lot more flexibility in the total length or surface preparation requirements.
