The version I am using is NX3.
I have an interesting problem of toolbars disappearing. When I have custom toolbars loaded, and I exit from UG they do not come back up when I start UG. I have gone to preferences and checked the box for saving the layout when I exit and tried doing a save all. Neither fo these seem to help. Does anyone know what is happening?

Prior to NX-4 you didn't have roles. The user.mtx file is the critical place where those settings are saved and it lives under your user profile. If for some reason you're logged into a windows system as a guest account or to a network or domain that is set up such that write access to your user profile or roaming profile doesn't allow you to save this file then that would probably be a cause.

For NX-3 what we did is start UG using a batch file that takes a kept copy of correct user.mtx settings and overwrites the ones in the directory where NX looks to load them from when it starts.

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions\NX

If you can open NX-3, change your icons, close NX, then re-open it without logging out of windows, then if your icons are saved as long as you stay logged into windows it is probably a login setting or a roaming profile problem. If on the other hand you can never get your settings to persist from one NX session to the next that it will probably be write access to that directory.

We figured it out. We had to add the directory of the custom tool bars to the custom dirs.dat file. thanks for your help though
