I need longer screws to be available in my toolbox screws. I've tried opening the applicable screw part file, and adding configurations for the extra lengths, but when I go to place them in the assembly, it doesnt give me the option to use that configuration. Is there something I must do to add this capability, without placing the wrong length screw, then changing the configuration in the assembly?

You have to create your own standard. This was raised in
thread559-80270.
Toolbox uses MS access database, so does not behave like the rest of SolidWorks.

Borobrush,

when i need new fixing lengths i go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, DATA OPTIONS, EDIT STANDARD DATA, find fixing goto length and add new size and length at the bottom.
You can yow drag this new bolt from the toolbox and your new config will then be created

Am I missing something?

Because when you place a screw/bolt into an assembly from the standards that come with SW that when the file is dropped you get a Menu that pops up and there you add the length for that file and a description or part number if required as well as picking the diameter etc...

So again I ask am I missing here?

Scott,
I think you have just misread the question.

I have interpreted it to mean that the LIST of lengths available is insufficient. ie longer, shorter or intermediate sizes are required by BOBORUSH.

You can add new lengths to a custom standard, but not a preloaded one.

Thanks for your mould design help!

Thanks for the advice people. You got me on the right track. I had to do a copy standards data first. It wouldn't let me modify the existing set. So I copied the english data, and was able to add the appropriate lengths to it. By the way, the "TOOLS, OPTIONS, DATA OPTIONS, EDIT STANDARD DATA" I coudnt find the data options area on 2007. It must've been discontinued in one of the releases, and replaced with "tools,Options,HoleWizard/Toolbox" to get to the standards modification area.

Thanks again
Bobo
