Can anyone let me know what is Top-Down-Assembly?

Hi Mageshk,

There are two ways to model an assembly:
1) Bottom-Up: You design all the parts in their own window and after just assembly them in an assembly file.
2) Top-Down: You design the parts in the context of the assembly. You can use the geometry of other parts to design the new parts.

In top down assy, u fix some points first like (as in a bike) the wheel centres, swing arm axis, etc. now u create a skeleton model of curves with these points. with this as the first model in the top down assy, u can create other components in the assembly (atleast partialy). here u can create layout design which will help in studying the jounce and rebound conditions.
As mhendler said, bottom up assy is building up the assy with models ready already.

when doing a top-down assembly it is advisable to use a skeleton part.

This is inserted at the "top" of the assembly.

You then keep multi-part references in the skeleton.

Typically say a datum curve deffining the diameter of two interlocking parts.

Both parts reference the skeleton and not each other.

This makes it easier when the assembly is revisted.
