I am not sure if my thread was deleted, but I was inquiring about torpedo sand. Why is it called that? And what are the general definitions that would define a torpedo sand?

'Torpedo Sand' is a relatively fine aggregate, which is screened at 3/8" and conforms to ASTM C33.

I have no idea why they call it that.

ASTM C33 specifications cover a wide range of different "sands". Because of this wide range, there are many localized terms to describe a certain type of natural sand.

In my experience "torpedo" sand is usually quite clean and a little coarser than other sands, but still within the ASTM C33 gradation limits.
