I have calculated the maximum torsional shear stress in a round tube and now wish to check that the material I choose (steel, type to be decided) will not fail.
Materials data tables give you the tensile yield stress, or 0.2% proof strength. Is there a rule or formula to convert the tensile yield stress into a value used for torsion?
Thank you for your help.
