I need to design a total condenser for a distillation column. The unit is a batch system and will be used for many different chemical synthesis operations so I cannot define a specific system of interest. The condenser will need the capacity to subcool. Chilled glycol (0 C minimum) will be available as coolant.
For a given vapor load, how do we calculate a LMTD and overall transfer coefficent for this type of condenser?
Do you calculate assuming a partial condenser and just add extra capacity?
Any help/insight will be greatly appreciated.
