As a project, I am building a model tower constructed of balsa or spruce wood (1/8" x 1/8" main supports and 3/32" x 3/32" cross beams)which must support up to 50lb bucket of sand. The bucket will be at the bottom of the tower - -with the a string from the bucket to the center of the tower.

Before I build a traditional "radio tower" construction does anyone have suggestions on - or locations of sample drawings/pictures etc?

Goal: The tower with the least weight and can hold 50lbs wins.

Thanks!

Most efficient weight/strength ratio will be with a cable stabilized (guyed) tower, though it will be difficult to hang your bucket of sand unless suspended past the bottom connection.

Otherwise, simple "K" bracing on a tri-leg tower works well.
