Hi
I am a beginner in transmission towers
What are the main different tower categories for a 330kV three-circuit line (on 150 km long flat but curvy land)? As I understand: (lattice steel towers)
• Suspension line towers
• 30° angle tension towers
• 60° angle tension towers
• Dead end towers
In addition, is it essential to design also approximately 2°-12° angle suspension line towers, due to numerous small angles? Or is 30° angle tower enough? Or is it more cost effective for a smaller angles to use suspension towers, but with guys?
Can a strengthened 60° angle tension tower also be used as dead end tower? (that would lower the design costs)
Any help or hint is much welcome!

If you are starting with a new line route and have no predefined tower types, you can optimize the number and angle capacity of the family of towers. If you have PLS-CADD with optimum spotting you can evaluate several options. It all depends on the span and wire sag. Generally you will need to consider the tangent tower to be capable of one or two degrees line angle. A small swing angle type of 5 to 10 degrees would be needed depending on your route.

If you intend to use the towers again, you might settle on a 1° tangent, 5° and 15° swing to go with your 30°, 60°. and 90° dead end towers.

It would be unusual to add a guy to self-supporting tangent structure for small angles. The deflection of lattice towers is not consistent with the elongation in guy wires.

Depending on the conductor size, tension and support method, you may find that the conductor will be deadended at angles below 60 degrees. You may also wish to consider storm structures if the line is not going to have deadends every 3 to 5 miles due to line angles anyway.
