Can anyone direct me to a source for information on what testing is required to get a custom designed trailer hitch approved for sale to the general public??

Thank you,

Kinda off topic but brings back memories. I worked for Draw-Tite and we used to hop in the back of a van with a trailer in tow to test sway bar applications. Someone would drive crazily down a dirt road with the guy in back filming ;)

The 10000 pound test used to shake the entire engineering building. I think we only tested two directions here in the US. European tests had an additonal direction (forward I believe)

We used to twist hitches into pretzels if the engineer was careless in his choice of tube sizes. But its amazing how much the hitch could move and still be acceptable.

Memories ;)
