Transfering Assembly Datums/Axes/Features To Part

I sometimes am basing the placement of a feature in part "A" dependent on how things are coming together in assembly "ABC" which consists of Parts "A", "B" and "C".

If i create say a axis or hole in assembly "ABC", how can i transfer or reassign that feature to part "A"? You can imagine that i can see right where i may want to place a new hole when I am looking at my assembly "ABC", but I need the hole to exist on part "A", not in the assembly. If its not possible to create the feature that way (hole for example), I could also live with creating an axis that would similarly be transferred to part A so that i could reference that in the part to create said hole.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer and please let me know if that isnt clear.

There are at least a couple of ways to do this. The simplest is to create the hole in the assembly and tell Pro/E that you want the hole to exist at the part level. There is an option for that in the feature dashboard. You can also use copy geometry and/or skeletons to move geometry from the assy to the part.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.

Dgallup,

Thanks for your reply. I played around with it as you suggested, and was able to find how I can assign the feature (hole for example) to be created at the part level- cool stuff.

The one thing I couldn't find however was how to create an axis or datum and similarly assign it to the part level. I did try creating an axis in the assembly, copying it, then switching to the part and pasting it, but it didn't seem to work. I am not very versed in skeletons so I started watching a video tutorial, but I am hoping that there is a way of doing it as easily as creating a feature as mentioned above!

Thanks for your thoughts,
Drew
