Transfering .model file from windows V5 to Unix V4

Could anyone please advise? I want to read a V5 CATPart as a V4 Model in a UNIX environment.

I can create a .model file in V4 Unix, open and view or manipulate with ease in V5 Windows.

To reverse that situation i have problems.

I can save a V5 .CATPart file as a .model file no problem.
When i open the .model file in unix i fill up with errors.

I understand that the V4/V5 infrastructure declarations needs to be completed, but where do i obtain the info for my CATIA V4 environment.

Initial Model File Path
DEFAULT_CODE_PAGE
WRITING_CODE_PAGE
Characters Equivalence Table Path

You should contact your CATIA V4 administrator

Hi,

Look in the CATIA V5 documentation before speaking to the V4 Admin, there are some info you dont need to ask..

What you should tell us is the error you have reading the V4 model... and your current level of v4 and v5.. let us know.

Thanks for your response.

I have spoken with system admin. he's nearly worked to death and isn't sure where or is unwilling to search for the info i require in UNIX. He did give me the project file path, which i've entered in the appropriate Infrastructure box.

The rest of the info i require is within the UNIX system but how can i access it without dumping on poor overworked systems guy?

the prj is the only thing you dont need to save in V4...

Hi,

As I remember, somebody post a response for a similar question in this forum. Did you tried to save the model without any spaces in the title, in a DOS format (8 characters) ? Regards

Well, thanks guys for your efforts, i appreciated it.

With what you've all said and a stroke of luck i did manage to bring the .model into unix V4.

I had the project file path written wrongly. The clue was in bringing the V4 model into V5. If i tried to to open the draft page it gave me an error message related to the project table and also, importantly, mentioned what the project table should be.

I changed project file path to PRJTABLE and that was that. I opened the file in UNIX V4.

Now one other problem. Does a V5 CATPart saved as a V4 .model only bring complex solids as one large volume?

Am i missing yet another setting or is the migration from V5 to V4 limited to basic visulization only with solids arriving always as volume created?
