Transferring Variables

Hello
I have figured out how to transfer data from Excel to Solid Edge, and control the suppression of features. Pasting links etc…
Can I get a variable from Solid Edge back into Excel?
Can I get Excel to Suppress/Hide/Inactivate parts in an assembly?

Yes it looks like it can be done, and it's the reverse of what you do to get the link from Excel to SE.
In the SE variable table right click on the value you want to transfer and select Copy Link. Then in the Excel sheet right click on a cell and select Paste Special. You should then in the box select the Paste Link option.
As for suppressing etc. parts in an assembly I don't think you can do that. The only suppressing you can do with the variable table (hence Excel) is with part features.
You may be able to do it using some VB code though.

Hi,

the way BC did outline the procedure is OK. But be warned
starting Excel will start SE as a background process
to fetch the variable's value. Upon closing Excel SE
will not be closed, however, so it will remain active
as a bckegound process (SE V10/sp12, XP Excel 200). You
have to terminate it manually by using the TM

Good tip Don, never thought of that.
Just checked it the opposite way (link from Excel to SE), and SE does start Excel if a variable is linked to an Excel sheet but Excel is terminated correctly when SE is exited.
