Transformer dedicated electrical space?

NEC 110-26 defines the dedicated electrical space as the width and depth of the equipment and extending from the floor to a height of 6ft above or to structure. I know this applies to panelboards, but does this apply to dry-type transformers, or can an hvac duct be routed over a transformer?

110.26 is for equipment requiring ready access "while energized". So it will depend on whether or not your application requires that for the dry type transformer.

As for the duct work, if it is used for cooling air, make sure it is insulated (to avoid condensation drip). Also make sure cooling of transformer (air movement) is not impeded, by presence of the duct.

Does code dictate someplace one application versus another? I could easily say that the unit cannot be serviced "while energized" however that does not mean that the local authority would agree.

Our opinion matter very little. The best is to consult the AHJ, rather than wondering about it.
