Transformer low-pressure alarm

Hi all,

I have several 13800/480 V, 1000 kVA transformers at my site. What is your opinion on bypassing the low-pressure alarms on these transformers? They are in a non-corrosive environment, and there are monthly operator rounds to inspect each transformer's pressure level.

I do not really see a purpose for the low-pressure alarm for anything other than detecting leaks. I do not expect a leaking transformer to allow for the ingress of air long enough to cause any negative issues if there are monthly operator rounds. Does anyone feel differently?

Thanks

If there is a small air leak in the transformer and loading is cyclical, the transformer could suck in wet air during low loading periods when the unit cools down. Perhaps one would only know from an oil quality sample (annually) that a problem had developed.

Are the alarms causing problems unnecessarily? Have you reviewed the set points on the Pressure gauge?

There is a point to be made that there are 10's of thousands of similar size / voltage operating with no monitoring (or inspections / maintenance) out there.
